Most schools and libraries have too much to do and not enough time or resources to get everything done for the E-Rate application process. One thing that can help free up some time and resources is tackling your E-Rate application process early and setting reasonable timelines.

Here is a sample E-Rate application process timeline.

Here are the quick highlights:

  • File your 470
    • Deadline to file your 470 form is October to January
  • File your 471 (after waiting your required 28 days)
    • Deadline to file your 471 form is January to March
  • Prepare and respond to USAC reviews
    • March to June
  • File your 486
    • File in a timely manner
  • File your 472 (BEAR) form or setup your accounts for SPI
    • Must complete by October 28th, of the following year.
